How to Care for Hand-Painted Skull Jewelry

So you've just unboxed your new Pretty Little Skulls piece and it's even more gorgeous in person (we know, we know 😊). Now the big question: how do you keep your handmade skull jewelry looking as fresh and fabulous as the day it arrived?

Hand-painted and resin skull jewelry is a little different from your average accessory — it's wearable art, after all! Here's everything you need to know to keep your pieces sparkling for years to come.

1. Keep It Dry

Water is the enemy of hand-painted finishes. Remove your skull bracelets, skull headbands, and other pieces before swimming, showering, or washing dishes. Even sweat can affect the finish over time, so store your jewelry after a workout.

2. Store It Properly

Store your handcrafted skull jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. UV rays can fade hand-painted details and cause resin to yellow over time. A small jewelry box or pouch works perfectly.

3. Clean Gently

If your piece needs a clean, use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe away dust or fingerprints. For stubborn spots, a barely-damp cloth works fine — just dry it immediately afterward. Never use harsh chemicals, jewelry cleaners, or ultrasonic cleaners on hand-painted or resin pieces.

4. Handle With Love

Resin is durable but not indestructible. Avoid dropping your pieces on hard surfaces and don't bend flexible pieces more than necessary. The hand-painted details are sealed, but rough handling can chip edges over time.

5. Glow-in-the-Dark Pieces Need Charging

Got one of our glow in the dark skull accessories? Give them a few minutes under a bright light before heading into the dark — the brighter the light source, the longer and brighter they'll glow! Natural sunlight works best.
